Personal information pertaining to AWIC or others (including employees, resources and Board members), is (whether or not the information is recorded) in some way personal information. AWIC maintains that we understand that personal information includes but is not limited to information regarding a person’s medical condition, emotional state, financial affairs or personal matters.

AWIC maintains the confidentiality of personal information, nor discloses personal information to anyone without the express written consent from the person to whom the information relates, except as may be permitted or required by law and specifically as set out in the provincial legislation, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

This Corporation understands that disclosure of personal information to other AWIC Board members and employees takes place only if the disclosure is necessary and proper for discharge of AWIC purposes. Breach of confidentiality shall be cause for immediate dismissal from the Board or as an employee. Obligations to maintain the confidentiality of personal information shall survive the termination of directorship with AWIC.

  •  From time to time, AWIC may need to collect, use or disclose personal information about clients, board members and/or employees. In order to do this, AWIC will require express written consent except in a few specific and limited circumstances which will be discussed at the Executive Members level.
  • AWIC will use or disclose personal information only for the purpose for which they gave consent. Even with consent, AWIC will limit collection, use and disclosure to purposes that a reasonable organization would consider appropriate under the circumstances.
  • Individuals have a right to see the personal information that AWIC holds about them, and to correct any inaccuracies. There’s oversight, through the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, to ensure that the law is respected, and redress if people’s rights are violated.
