What does a typical day look like for you?

8:30to4:30
Screen people who would like to come into Algoma health building to make sure they are COVID free and also guard the covid vaccine at times.

What was the education and training needed for your job? Any additional training for your current position?

High school and had to pass the security guard exam.

Why and when did you choose this career? What have you learned since you started?

I have worked in the field for 4 years. I enjoy people and have learned patience working in this field.

What skills do you have that make you great at your job?

I have people skills and have learn how to read people. Also, patience as some people ask a lot of questions.

What is the biggest thing you have learned on the job?

Patience with people.

What is the best part of your job?

Working with great group of people.

What is something challenging about your job?

It is that people don’t want to listen to the questions we need to ask and they sometimes will get mad that they have to answer questions. I remember not to take it personally.

What advice would you give to someone interested in pursuing the career?

It is a great place to work and can be very rewarding career choice.

How would you say COVID-19 has affected your day-today-work? (Job duties, commute, check-in process, etc.)

It has made everything much slower.

What has it been like to be an essential worker during a world-wide pandemic?

To me not much has changed as I always screened people. I try to keep myself safe from people who could be sick.

Could you share how being an essential worker during the pandemic has made this more personally fulfilling career?

We are the some of the front line workers and we are to keep the other workers safe.
