Home About UsBoard of Directors Now Accepting Nominations: Join the AWIC Board of Directors!

The Algoma Workforce Investment Corporation (AWIC) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing workforce development strategies that support the economic and social well-being of the Algoma District.

As one of Ontario’s 25 Local Workforce Planning Boards, AWIC leads local initiatives to shape the future of labour market research and workforce development within the Algoma District. We are looking for individuals who are actively engaged in their communities and can bring a regional perspective to decision-making.

Board Member Commitments

AWIC is governed by a volunteer, community-representative Board of Directors. Board members are responsible for overseeing AWIC’s mandate and vision ensuring that the organization remains aligned to support workforce development and labour market research across the Algoma District.

The Board meets bi-monthly, and Directors are asked to volunteer their time, expertise, and insight on workforce development issues both within their communities and across Algoma as a region. Each Director serves as a vital liaison between their sector or community and the AWIC Board. AWIC Board meetings are offered in a hybrid format (Zoom and in-person), although in-person attendance is the preferred method whenever possible.

  • Regular attendance at board and related meetings
  • Active participation in board and subcommittee activities
  • Preparation for meetings and staying informed on board matters
  • Willingness to assume leadership roles within the board
  • Participation and support in AWIC sponsored and related community events

At AWIC, we are proud of over 20 years of being a trusted community partner, working with stakeholders across a range of sectors, as well as with municipal, provincial, and federal governments. Our deep-rooted partnerships position AWIC as a key link in supporting workforce and economic development in our region.
